Just one more thing. In Thomas Edison’s winter home in Fort Myers Florida (where I practiced for 33 years.) On the wall there is a 10’ bamboo rod with the 150 lb tarpon he caught it on. I own 12 carbon fiber rods from 2 wt to 11wt. But to fish a Bamboo rod is just special.

I first want to say I am so glade I found your Channel. I just can’t get enough of your past videos. Now about your bamboo rod. Most of the rods in that era were slower. My dads was also. Now let’s look at today. I make bamboo rods. I don’t like slow rods. Also I live in the mountain of Georgia,USA. Most of our streams are not river but streams. Most you can cast across. Most are very boulder riddled and very hard to walk in. And falling in is expected. So to fish these little streams I make a fast(as fast as bamboo can get) 6 foot 4wt. Rod to be used with double taper fly line. I can cast this 30-40 feet (9-12 meters). Bamboo is something you just fall in love with. My first rod was my dad’s 7foot 6 inch and had this old reel with a greased line on it. With a leader attached to it with an overhand knot. Just want to tell you my story and how bamboo can be so different. Thank you for the warmth you bring to your channel and the love you two have for fly fishing.

I have the original Douglas Sky in the 9ft 6 wt, the Sky G in the 9 ft 8 wt, and the DFX switch rod in a 7 wt. I've fished the 6 wt countless times in the past 5 years, and it is still in mint condition. Zero issues with it, except that I lost the tip section once (and they replaced it for 50$), and I broke the tip section again (not sure how I did that, but they again replaced it for 50$). Whenever I use a cheaper rod, like a TFO, I'm appalled by how heavy the swing weight is in comparison. Obviously, that's not a great comparison in terms of quality, but having used the hell out of my douglas 6 weight for 5 years, I have zero complaints. I just wish they made a Douglas Sky G in a 10 foot length for indicator fishing on bigger water, but alas....

If it is trout season and not grayling season how do you keep from catching grayling.

My knots as a fly fisherman over the years have not been the best, but a small drop have proven wildly successful at keeping my clinch knots from coming, “unclinched”. And that’s just the beginning. These past few years with the higher prices of EVERYTHING have helped me repair soles of shoes I would’ve otherwise had to replace. Thank you so much for this. 😇

Check the tension on your spool the centrepin should peel off line with no help at all maybe put a little mineral oil on the pin itself.

Hey Andy, Would you choose the 0/2WT 10’8″ over the 2WT 10’2″? I fish small rivers down here in Tasmania, Australia.

With a downstream dry, how do you lift off to present the fly again without disturbing the fish? I always feel this is one of those situations where you only really get one shot. Anything else is luck or a daft fish, unless it is messy/broken water.

Great to see you back on the river, and catching fish des! I notice you were using a Shakespeare Oracle II rod. I'd love to see you do a review of it. I tried one a while ago and was surprised by how accomplished it was given the price tag.

Great video as always Andy….nice to see you back on the river. I’ve fished the Haddon estate many times and if the weather is bright with the dry fly only policy you’re stuffed. Best day I caught 8 small native rainbows which were all feeding in a pool under some shade. The only complication was the little pod of ducklings which I had to cast between ….made it more interesting! Once I discovered the Peacocks Derwent stretch which runs into the Wye behind the hotel I vowed to stick to that river….nymphs especially fished with a duo worked really well and I had great some great fun. My local river has been in spate pretty much since the opening of the trout season here in South Wales so I’ve stuck to my Llyn which is fishing well ….I’m hoping to get back to the dry fly on the Taff soon. Keep up the great work …tight lines 🎣

Another great video and thank you for another guided day out “by proxy”😬 As others have said I love to hear your thinking. It is massively informative. You said you were testing a new rod (9’) so you wouldn’t be familiar with it. You normally fish a 10’ I believe when on the Wye as you can’t wade. Do you think that the reduced reach (amongst other things) might have contributed to missing those fish and would have helped on the day? Looking forward to the next one. Cheers
